Alternate Take Quilt

So, what exactly is this?

  1. Alternate Take quilt red

I'm not sure, but it has something to do with this.

  1. Alternate Take blue section

It's still in the experimental stage, but I've got a picture in my mind, and I'll see where it goes from here.

I finished a couple more sections this weekend (August 8th)

  1. Alternate take green section

  2. Alternate take purple

I'm continuing with my plan to do this one entirely on the machine... piecing, applique, and quilting. So this was the first applique section.

  3. Alternate Take Yellow

And this is part of the yellow/orange section. It's too long for the whole thing to fit in the frame and still get some detail. I think I'll have one more section, and then I'm going to start thinking about how to put all these together.

Well, I didn't like what was happening with the sixth section, so I decided to just keep it to five for balance, and started putting it together. I'm about 1/3 done constructing the top, and here's a piece of it:

Hopefully will have the top completed this weekend!

...

And Ta-Da! The top is completed! I'll probably start quilting it next weekend.

Alternate Take Quilt finished top

Wait for it... yes, it is quilted, and bound, and completely finished! The Alternate Take quilt in all its glory:

I ended up piecing the back, so it's as bright as the front:

Alternate Take is a slightly unusual name for a quilt. This past summer I was following a lot of bloggers of the scrappy quilt school. I do appreciate the idea behind scrappy quilts... that you're using up every precious scrap of fabric to make a quilt, and stretching your creativity at the same time, but I find that a lot of scrappy quilts end up looking a little too country and homespun for my taste. So with this quilt I wanted to borrow that scrappy mentality, but with a slightly more modern look... so this my alternate take on a scrappy quilt.

Alternate Take. Designed, machine pieced, and machine quilted by me. Begun summer of 2008 and completed January 2009.
