The Last Five Movies I Watched.

Here I have to make a distinction between movies that I just happen to catch parts of on TV while quilting or doing homework, and movies that I actually sit down and watch. I mean, background noise is good and all, but there’s something very magical about just letting yourself slip into an imaginary world for an hour and a half.

  1. Pride and Prejudice. Okay, I admit I was flipping through the channels and caught this one during the opening credits. I’m not usually a chick-flick kind of girl, but I love this movie. It’s so charming and romantic. Makes me get all weepy and sighy.
  2. Men in Black. That fabulous man of mine came to Aspen the other weekend, and this is one of the movies we watched. It’s fun, entertaining, the acting is good, and while we were watching it, I realized that for being ten years old, the special effects stand up very well.
  3. Across the Universe. And this is movie number two we watched the other weekend. Julie Taymor has got such a fun imaginative artistic vision, and this is a very entertaining and charming project. The story is “narrated” by Beatles songs, and it’s very well done.
  4. Poolhall Junkies. This is one of my totally indulgent movies that always puts me in a good mood. It has Christopher Walken, who is awesome, and Ricky Schroeder. It’s about being a pool hustler, it’s got a great story, great dialogue, and it’s filmed in Utah at a pool hall I used to go to. If you can find it, rent it.
  5. Iron Man. Yeah, we had been waiting for this movie for months. My fabulous man wanted to see it because it’s a cool comic book movie. I wanted to see it because it has Robert Downey, Jr. who I consider one of the greatest living actors. We both had an amazing time, and were blown away by how awesome it was.
