Ages and ages ago... in fact, I think it was my first full week in Aspen, I saw an entire herd of elk. I drive through a mountain meadow on the way to and from work every day, and it is part of their migration path. So on that fateful day driving home from work, there were about 50 elk, just wandering through the meadow, eating here and there, minding their own business.
Unfortunately, that day I did not have a camera with me. And both my cameras were at the condo, sans film, sans batteries. So I just chalked it up to bad luck and put it out of my mind.
Until about three weeks ago. I was driving home from a concert, and I looked out the window, and there were some elk in the meadow. Unfortunately, it was too dark to take pictures, but the next day, the elk were there again. So I’ve made it my quest the past few weeks to make it up to the meadow in the evening, and take some pictures.
The elk, however, have not been very cooperative. Between rainy weather and bad timing, I just haven’t been able to catch them in action. The fabulous man is starting to believe they don’t exist.
Enter last night. I went into Aspen to get some groceries, and drove back around the time I usually see them. Since I didn’t have any frozen food, I figured I could hang out in the meadow awhile, and see if they were going to come down. They didn’t. But, as I was driving down to the road to find a turn-around spot, I saw some at the far side of somebody’s property. I had both my film camera, and the digital camera the fabulous man loaned me, so now I have conclusive proof of elk in Aspen!

What, you can’t see them? Look really close at the center left of the picture.

No really, at the very back of the field at the base of the hill.

I promise, they’re there.
Okay, so I suck at taking pictures. I know it would be really cool to have one walking across the road in front of me, and I’ll keep working on it. But for now, this is my proof. ☺
